light spring
Combining Summer's low value with Spring's vibrant warmth, this subtype is the fairest of the Spring season. Their colours are mixed with white to lighten and yellow to warm, which creates a playful palette filled with pastel hues reminiscent of delicate French patisseries.
characteristics
Light Spring is found between Warm Spring and Light Summer on the seasonal flow. Individuals with this colouring are dominantly fair with some warmth. Though their chroma is neutral, they belong to a season influenced by bright chroma so may have some luminosity or shine about them. However, this is not as intense as other Spring subtypes as we’re flowing towards Summer so we start to see grey gently softening the palette.
CONTRAST
Light Spring individuals have very low levels of contrast due to the fairness across their features. However, the blend that is created by light skin, light hair and light eyes is increased slightly by the luminosity in their image. Depending on the individual's natural appearance, they may have a dewy complexion, sparkling eyes and/or glossy hair, which add additional areas of light and dark.
SKIN TONE
Despite their fair appearance, we see Light Spring individuals with fair through to medium depth skin tones. This may have golden or peachy undertones but can also be neutral, which means we will see either green or purple veins beneath the skin. As such, warm metals will always be more effective but they may be able to wear silver or platinum. Freckles are also common for Light Spring individuals.
EYES
Typical examples of eye colours we see across Light Spring include blue, brown, green, hazel and gold. However, any colour which is somewhat light and warm is possible. Due to Spring's bright influence, they tend to sparkle and reflect the light strongly. We may also see border definition on the outer iris edge as well as a sunburst pattern around the pupil.
HAIR
In keeping with their ethereal image, Light Spring individuals have fair hair. Blondes are very light through to dark but we don't see anything deeper than a light brunette or copper. These colours tend to be warm with either strawberry, honey, gold or reddish hues. However, as they border Summer, it is not uncommon to see a mix of ash as well. They also tend to have glossier shines.

colour palette
Light Spring is reminiscent of an April morning stroll, filled with the gentle warmth of the sun and the invigorating scent of blooming flowers. The trees, adorned with fresh green leaves, sway lightly in the breeze, casting playful shadows on the ground. You might spot early blooms of daffodils and tulips, their vibrant colours painting the landscape. The earth is waking up; you can almost hear the rustle of new growth and feel the energy of renewal all around.
metals
Light Spring, as a neutral subtype, has the versatility to wear cool metals, but warm metals like gold and rose gold truly enhance its brightness and warmth. Opting for lighter, shiny finishes will add a fresh and radiant touch, perfectly complementing the lively palette of this season. It’s important to avoid antique or hammered finishes as they can create a heaviness that doesn't align with Light Spring's delicate aesthetic. Please note, this advice applies to jewellery as well as hardware and fastenings such as belt buckles, zippers and buttons.
neutrals
Pure black feels too stark against the warmth of this subtype, often overshadowing its delicate, vibrant nature. Medium-depth warm greys and browns offer a lovely balance, enhancing Light Spring's natural contrast without overwhelming it. As for whites, opting for creamier shades and pinkish beiges not only complements the skin tone but also harmonises with the overall warmth of Light Spring. These lighter hues add a touch of warmth and freshness, reflecting the season’s blossoming beauty.
accents
Light Spring accents are taken from nature in full bloom.
The vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows reflect the warmth and energy of the season, while the yellow-tinged blues, greens, and purples seamlessly bridge the gap to Summer.
Highlights such as cantaloupe, with its soft, peachy hue, and celery (a fresh, light green) add a cheerful touch. Primrose yellow and mojito green introduce a lovely brightness, while jacaranda brings a delicate hint of purple that complements the overall warmth.
combinations
Given the low contrast level of this subtype, it’s essential to create harmony through colours that are either adjacent on the palette or share similar values.
Using sister accents (colours that are side by side on the sample palette, as shown in the first two examples) helps maintain a cohesive and vibrant look without overwhelming the natural fairness of Light Spring. This can lead to delightful combinations that feel fresh and uplifting.
Monochromatic accents are equally effective as demonstrated in the final two examples. These are colours taken from the same column on the sample palette and ensure a serene yet colourful effect. This combination keeps the look light and airy, aligning perfectly with the seasonal essence.
Additionally, the second two examples show how pairing light neutrals with bright accents allows for a playful pop while retaining an overall sense of lightness.
colours to borrow
Those individuals who lean towards Light Summer can incorporate the warmer pastels from that sample palette to add a soft and refreshing touch to their look.
Alternatively, those who gravitate towards Warm Spring can enjoy the lighter, cooler hue on that sample palette. They provide a lovely contrast, enriching the individual’s style without overwhelming their natural warmth.
This flexibility allows Light Spring individuals to experiment with different shades, seamlessly blending elements from both adjacent palettes while still honouring their own unique characteristics.

colours to avoid
Light Spring’s dominant lightness and warm hues mean that dark and cool colours, like those found in Dark Winter, are very unflattering. These darker shades tend to overwhelm Light Spring individuals, creating a stark contrast that can feel heavy and ageing.
In the above examples you can see that the dark shades not only overshadow Maya’s natural warmth but also cast a cool reflection on her skin, making it appear washed out. This clash diminishes her vibrant, fresh appearance, highlighting the importance of selecting colours that align with her light and warm palette. Please note, the colour codes above marked with an asterisk are taken from the Dark Winter sample palette.
