bright winter

Also known as 'Clear Winter', this is the brightest Winter subtype. Their colours are cool variations of an unmixed palette to maintain purity and resemble the stars, interstellar gas and cosmic dust of distant galaxies.

characteristics

Bright Winter is found between Cool Winter and Bright Spring on the seasonal flow. This subtype features a high to intense contrast level meaning their best colours oppose those in their own palette in either hue or value. Their palette includes cool jewel tones like cobalt blue, lime green, fuchsia pink and amaranth purple.

CONTRAST

Bright Winter individuals have high levels of contrast. Their hair is typically deeper than their skin and eyes and this level is increased by intense luminosity across their appearance. Due to their bright influence, they tend to have sparkling eyes, glossy hair and sheer or naturally dewy complexions.

BW SKIN TONE.png

SKIN TONE

We see Bright Winter individuals with fair to deep skin tones that are either neutral-cool or cool in hue with either blue or pink undertones. This means their veins appear purple or green beneath the skin and cool metals work better for them. Due to their bright influence, naturally dewy complexions are common. They may have freckles but find it difficult to tan and are likely to burn instead.

BW - EYES.png

EYES

Typical examples of eye colours we see across Bright Winter include black, blue, brown, green and cool hazel. However, any colour which is cool with an absence of any red or gold detail is possible. These colours tend to be absent of any softening grey pigmentation which increases their reflectivity in contrast tests. We may also see definition on the outer iris edge as well as spokes on the inner section.

HAIR

Belonging to a season influenced by dark value, Bright Winter individuals generally have medium to deep coloured hair. We see brunettes through to a variety of shades of black. Colours are typically ash in tone but, as they border Spring, we may start to see red or golden accents. They also tend to have glossy finishes meaning larger sections reflect the light rather than individual flecks as seen in softer seasons.

colour palette

The Bright Winter palette is reminiscent of a cosmic dream. As you approach the galaxy’s outskirts, the inky blackness of intergalactic space slowly gives way to a soft, ghostly glow. Wisps of pale blue and violet dance around the edges. Clusters of newborn stars shimmer in electric blues, their brilliance reflecting off ionised hydrogen, glowing in vibrant pinks and deep magentas.  Passing through a dense nebula, emerald-green pockets of excited oxygen flicker like auroras in the void.

BW - Metals .png

metals

As a neutral-cool subtype, Bright Winter individuals look best in cool metals like silver, white gold, platinum, titanium and palladium. However, they can wear bright yellow gold if balanced with cool neutrals and accents from their closet. Metals should be light or medium in value and in highly shiny finishes - this subtype needs bling to repeat their crystal clear chroma. They should avoid dark or antique metals as these look unnatural.

BW - Neutrals [2025] .png

neutrals

Bright Winter can wear both pure black and pure white due to their dominant chroma. However, they should not be worn together or on their own. Without a bright accent, these neutrals will look flat. Aside from these colours, Bright Winter can also make use of light beige and taupe as well as navy and dark brown. These neutrals have no grey pigmentation to maintain purity.

BW - Accents [2025].png

accents

Due to its neutral-cool hue, the Bright Winter palette contains more blues, greens and purples. These include azure blue, viridian green and amaranth purple. As they border Spring, we do see some yellows but these have a hint of blue to cool them.

BW - Combinations [2025].png

combinations

As their contrast level is moderate to high, colour combinations need to oppose what is in the Bright Winter individual’s natural palette. In the first two examples, we have shown how dark neutrals can be paired with light accents to achieve balance. Similarly, light neutrals may be paired with bright accents to create the same effect as shown in the final two examples. Alternatively, colours on opposite sides of the colour wheel can be paired.

BW - Colours To Borrow [2025] .png

colours to borrow

Depending on which way the Bright Winter individual flows, they may be able to borrow colours from neighbouring Cool Winter or Bright Spring. As Cool Winter is dominantly cool, their colours can be a little icy for Bright Winter. These individual should select the brighter, warmer colours from this palette in order to maintain balance. The Bright Spring palette retains Bright Winter's purity but their colours are neutral-warm. Therefore, this subtype should opt for the cooler colours from that palette. Please note that the colours marked with an asterisk above are taken from the Cool Winter and Bright Spring palettes respectively.

colours to avoid

As a bright and cool subtype, Bright Winter’s worst colours are soft and warm, such as those seen in Soft Autumn. The dusty warm tints in the examples above flatten Crystal's image because they muddy her bright chroma. They also reflect yellow on her skin as the warmth clashes with her cool tones. Again, the colour codes above marked with an asterisk are taken from the Soft Autumn sample palette.
